Update: Life in the Suburbs

Centennial and Littleton Photographer

Hello blog world, I’m back. I’ve returned from my prolonged hiatus due to our permanent move from coastal Southern California to now the burbs of Centennial, Colorado. I’ve been away for quite some time so let me recap the last six chaotic yet eventful months: Baby June was born, Sean graduated with his MBA from UCLA, we became first-time home owners, we packed our things and drove over 1,000 miles to Denver, Sean separated from the military and started his new job, and now we’re facing the beginnings of our home remodel. Please don’t get me wrong, these events have all been a blessing—I’ve never been happier and most days I have to pinch myself. But being a sleepy new mom juggling a busy new life can get a bit overwhelming and all things other than my husband, baby, and pup have unwittingly fallen by the wayside. The good news is that we’re now settled. Finally. Even better news, I have time to pour all my heart into my business again.

Truth is, moving the business to a different state has been terrifying and painful. The beginnings of my photography business in Los Angeles were built from deep and genuine creativity that I found in the margins of my busy full-time career. I worked my ass off which eventually allowed me to leave my military career to pursue the business full-time. I poured all my blood, sweat, and tears into creating a place for my work and art in the industry. And now here I am, back at ground zero, in an unfamiliar place. I promise this isn’t a pity party. Somehow, writing this out for you to read gives me courage and the persistence to keep moving forward, remembering why I started everything I did in the first place. So here we go. To all the creatives out there facing the setbacks of the unexpected changes life throws at us: Let’s keep moving. Let’s do what we love and do a lot of it.
